Airtha is a home-brew fantasy campaign setting that uses the Dungeons & Dragons (3rd edition) game mechanics. The world itself can probably be thought of as being somewhat similar to Tolkien's Middle-earth in style (with elements of Lovecraftian horror) - though it cannot be stressed enough that this DOES NOT mean that halflings are now considered hobbits, or that elves are immortal, and it definitely doesn't mean that the story revolves around an impossible seeming quest to destroy an evil artefact to bring about the downfall of a dark lord!

The setting simply relies on players not entering the game with the standard D&D mindset i.e. where magic and monsters are somewhat commonplace, and enchanted items are available in plenty to anyone with enough coin. However, there are both high and low fantasy elements within the world, so I will refrain from calling it a 'low magic' setting, but even something as simple as a +2 weapon should be considered a little special, and probably has a name and minor history of its own.

Simply put, all this means is that you should not expect to find a 'Ye olde Magic Shoppe' within the walls of every town, or that the local priest will have the ability to bring your dead comrade back from the dead. However, the main game mechanics are no different from those found in the core books (as the player characters are, after all, the ones who have the potential to become the great heroes or villains of their time), though the world itself goes about its business in a fairly mundane fashion.

A Brief Introduction

The campaign is set in the southern half of Brimdenn (an island in the northwest of Airtha).
