The gnomes of Brimdenn have always been a somewhat secluded folk, living for the most part upon the island of Gullatyr - which is itself separated from mainland by a stretch of water known as The Dimmgád Strait. It is here that they have made their home for as long as they can remember, indeed appearing in Brimdenn long before the migrations of men.

Their main dwellings lie in a heavily wooded region of the island - a region that is encircled, and somewhat safeguarded, by the Meneth Mountains. Though these mountains are in fact all that remain of a vast fiery volcano that was said to have spewed forth great torrents of fire at the time of the war of the gods long ago, and is also reputed to be the birth place of the fire wyrms. Indeed, many tales and legends surround those mountains (some more fanciful than others), though what truth lies behind them has either been forgotten or distorted by the passage of time.

It is also told that in earlier days the gnomes had dealings with the dwarves, but it is only since the coming of the human folk that they have appeared on the mainland in greater numbers. However, it is also true to say that they are somewhat less common in the towns and cities of men than the halflings (for whom they are sometimes mistaken) or even the dwarves - and are instead more likely to be found in or around the settlements of those two other races.
