Humans (pt.2) |
And so it came to pass that in the year in which the wood-elves of Luna Silva made their war upon the orcs in the south (some 327 years ago), much of The Éastwold was troubled by a terrible pestilence that afflicted a great many of its people. Thus it was that no troops were sent to bolster the forces of the wood-elf king - though many perished all the same that coming winter. 'The Black Plague' it was called, and it wrought such devastation amongst the people of that land that it is only in recent years that the population has become as abundant as it once was. |

At that time the line of the kings (which had passed unbroken from father to son since the founding of the kingdom) came to an end, and a steward was appointed to govern the kingdom until the son of king's niece came to manhood. When that time came the young heir took to the throne in the name of King Mattheus Fairfax the First (forsaking his own surname for that of his mother's kin), and the lordship of Túrmannian in the north was bestowed upon the former steward (where his descendants rule to this day). |

Likewise the scions of King Mattheus maintain the kingship in Langseld - though unlike the days before the plague, rulership now passes to eldest child of the monarch rather than the eldest son (as Mattheus himself fathered only daughters). And so it is that King Lyndon Fairfax reigns at this time (though he is but newly come to the throne), and he has recently taken to wife lady Edlyn of Túrmannian - thus uniting the house of the steward and the king. |
