So the seed of dissension was sown afresh, and not until too late was it, and its source, discovered. Then wroth were the gods to discover more of their brethren tainted by Colubra's curse, and in their anger they smote the great jewel with such force that it shattered into countless shards. Now such was the power of that stroke that the fragments were cast far throughout the heavens, and Colubra herself was utterly destroyed, and the malice contained within each shard was much diminished.

And so the stars were born - for each fragment of the crystal can still be seen to this day - and although they are all but invisible during the daylight hours (unable to contend with fiery brilliance of the sun), at night they glow with that same radiance that was once theirs, temporarily cleansed of their inner darkness by the close passage of the sun …though on occasion one may wink out for a little while, as the evil within consumes it once again.

Yet it is said that not a few of these crystal shards found their way into the mortal realm - for not all those guardians that had succumbed to the lure of the dark stone sought atonement for their folly, and some being proud and unwilling to suffer the judgement of their peers, fled hither, burdened with whatever treasures they could carry.
